Melita Peharda

melitaI am a scientific advisor at the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries in Split, Croatia.

My scientific work includes the study of the biological and ecological characteristics of bivalves including age and growth, population and community structure, reproduction, feeding and trophic relations.  I am especially interested in commercially important species and their sustainable exploitation from nature as well as the evaluation of the potential for introduction of new bivalve species into aquaculture. In collaboration with colleagues from the laboratory I also participate in studies of demersal communities.

My role in ARAMACC is as supervisor of the WP3 project “Ecological and biological drivers of calcification rate and increment formation in Glycymeris spp“, working with ARAMACC researcher Ariadna Purroy.
